Contextual Intelligence as part of Decision Intelligence

Today’s dynamic business environments are characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) and throw up many challenges for executives. To make strategic decisions in such VUCA environments, it is crucial for senior executives to find the right FIT between the intelligence required as inputs to decision making and how their companies gather and process intelligence about new business environments (e.g. new geographical markets such as India, new technology contexts such as Digitization or new polticial and regulatory developments such as reversed Globalization/new trade barriers etc.). We define this FIT between the intelligence required and the way intelligence is gathered and processed as "DECISION INTELLIGENCE".
Recent studies have proven that "DECISION INTELLIGENCE" leads to better insights to create competitive advantages and finally to higher company performance (Moser et al. 2017).
Context changes such as a potential market entry into a market in Asia (e.g. India, China) or the swift change of the business envionment in existing markets (e.g. Digitization, Robotik, Sharing Economy etc.) require executives to adapt their intelligence gathering and processing activities in order to make the right strategic decisions (e.g. adapting the business model, investing into new capabilities, developing new collaborations). In short, they need to adapt their Contextual Mindset as the levels of change and insights are often dramatically changing in new business contexts.
